Charlottesville, VA – Storms are expected to roll through Virginia and Maryland on Saturday as a cold front sweeps across the region, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and a sharp temperature drop to cities like Charlottesville, Oakland, and Washington, D.C.
According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, above-average temperatures through midweek will give way to unsettled conditions Friday night into Saturday. A warm front arriving Friday will bring scattered showers, followed by a strong cold front that could trigger thunderstorms and more widespread rain early Saturday.
In Charlottesville, highs will climb to 81°F Friday before plunging to 66°F Saturday. Oakland will dip from 72°F to 57°F with storm chances increasing by morning. Baltimore and D.C. will remain mild through Thursday, but both cities could see rain beginning late Friday with storms likely on Saturday.
Travelers should plan for wet roads and limited visibility during peak hours Saturday, especially along I-66 and U.S. 29. Power outages and minor flooding are possible in areas with heavier downpours. Residents are advised to charge devices and secure loose outdoor items ahead of the storm.
Showers may linger into early Sunday. Additional watches or warnings could be issued by Friday afternoon.
