Hammond, IN – A domestic incident escalated into gunfire early Sunday morning outside a Hammond bar, leaving two people dead and three others injured, including a bartender whose condition remains unclear.

According to the Hammond Police Department, officers responded to reports of shots fired around 4 a.m. March 30 outside Portside Pub on Indianapolis Boulevard. Police discovered five individuals with gunshot wounds. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while three others were hospitalized. Two remain in serious condition and one is listed as stable.

Investigators say the shooting appears to have stemmed from a domestic-related situation. Four of the victims—including a bartender and three patrons—were allegedly trying to protect a woman involved in the incident when the suspect opened fire. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased.

A person of interest is in custody. His name will be released after formal charges are filed. Police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
