Green Bay, Wisconsin – A fast-moving band of snow will sweep west to east across central and east-central Wisconsin this afternoon, potentially dropping up to 3 inches along I-41 before 4 p.m. and turning roads snow covered in time for the evening drive.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, snow is expected to spread into the region early this afternoon and continue through late day. Most locations south of Highway 10, including Appleton, Oshkosh and Manitowoc, can expect 1 to 2 inches of accumulation. However, a narrow corridor of heavier snow could push totals above 3 inches if the band shifts slightly north.

North of Highway 10, snowfall amounts will decrease quickly, with lighter accumulations expected toward Wausau and Rhinelander. Even so, brief bursts of moderate snow may reduce visibility to under one mile at times.

Drivers along I-41, U.S. 41 and I-43 should prepare for slippery stretches, especially on bridges and untreated secondary roads. Road conditions may deteriorate rapidly during heavier snow rates this afternoon, increasing the risk for spinouts and minor crashes.

Snow will taper from west to east toward early evening, but cold pavement will keep roads slick after sunset. Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance and check Wisconsin DOT travel conditions before heading out. Additional statements may be issued if heavier snow bands develop farther north later today.
