Wilmington, DE – A Wilmington man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly robbing a woman at a Valero gas station and assaulting an EMT.

Delaware State Police reported that at approximately 11:18 a.m., 53-year-old Luis Santiago approached a woman at the gas pumps at 1327 McKennan’s Church Road. Santiago forcefully took her cell phone and fled the scene. Good Samaritans intervened, restraining Santiago, who threw the stolen phone during the altercation, causing damage. Both the victim and Santiago sustained minor injuries during the incident.

While being transported by ambulance to a local hospital, Santiago reportedly became disorderly, kicking an EMT. Upon arrival at the hospital, he continued to resist, injuring a staff member. Santiago was subsequently released from the hospital, charged with robbery, assault, and other offenses, and is currently being held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $7,100 cash bond.
