Glasgow, Montana – A sharp shift in conditions will hit northeast Montana by Thursday evening as a wintry mix develops along U.S. Highway 2, dropping temperatures toward the upper 20s and creating slick travel through Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a weak ridge bringing mild conditions Wednesday will give way to a low pressure system Thursday. That system will introduce rain changing to a wintry mix and light snow across portions of northeast and central Montana. Highs Thursday will range from the upper 20s to upper 40s, a noticeable drop from Wednesday’s milder readings that reached into the 60s in some communities.
Travel along US-2 from Havre to Wolf Point and east toward Culbertson could become slippery Thursday night as temperatures fall below freezing. Bridges and overpasses will be the first to ice over. Gusty winds may also reduce visibility briefly in falling snow.
By Friday, light snow may linger, especially across central Montana, with highs recovering into the 30s and 40s. Road conditions could remain variable during the morning commute before gradual improvement in the afternoon.
A Chinook pattern sets up this weekend, sending temperatures back into the 50s and 60s by Saturday and Sunday. That rapid warmup may lead to melting snow and localized water on roadways.
Drivers should monitor changing conditions Thursday night and Friday morning, as additional advisories could be issued if snowfall or icing becomes more widespread.
