Waycross, GA – Residents of southeast Georgia should prepare for freezing temperatures tonight as a Freeze Warning remains in effect from 10 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) Jacksonville.
The warning covers multiple counties, including Coffee, Jeff Davis, Bacon, Appling, Wayne, Atkinson, Pierce, Brantley, Glynn, Echols, Clinch, and Camden. Temperatures are expected to drop to as low as 30°F, posing risks to outdoor plants, pets, and vulnerable individuals such as young children, the elderly, and the homeless.
According to the NWS, residents should take precautions to protect tender vegetation from the cold. Additionally, pets should be brought indoors, and those at risk for cold exposure should seek shelter.
This unseasonably cold weather follows a period of mild temperatures across Georgia, with conditions expected to improve by Saturday afternoon as temperatures rise. However, another round of cold weather could return early next week, making continued precautions necessary.
For the latest updates, residents should monitor local forecasts and follow advisories from the National Weather Service.
