Gardner, IL – A Gardner man was arrested Friday on charges of first-degree murder following an alleged domestic dispute.

Grundy County Sheriff’s deputies officers responded to the 100 block of E. Parker Street at approximately 4:45 a.m. for a call initially reported as an overdose. Upon arrival, deputies found a 55-year-old woman unresponsive with apparent stab wounds.

According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, deputies attempted to render aid until Gardner EMS arrived and confirmed the victim had no signs of life. Sheriff’s Detectives and the Grundy County Coroner’s Office were notified, with the coroner pronouncing the victim deceased at the scene.

Detectives identified the suspect as Jeffrey Conley, 52, who resided with the victim. During their investigation, authorities learned Conley allegedly stabbed the victim several times. Conley was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. The couple’s 7-year-old daughter, present at the scene, was released to family members, and DCFS was notified.

Grundy County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the charge of first-degree murder. Sheriff’s Detectives stated that the incident appeared to be isolated and resulting from domestic violence. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
