Jacksonville, FL – A frost advisory is in effect for portions of northeast Florida and southeast Georgia from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. Thursday, as temperatures are expected to dip as low as 32 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, the advisory affects areas including Gainesville, Lake City, Waycross, and surrounding communities. The cold temperatures could lead to frost formation, which poses a risk to sensitive outdoor plants if they are not properly protected.
Residents are encouraged to take precautionary measures, such as covering tender vegetation or bringing plants indoors where possible. Outdoor animals should also be provided with adequate shelter to protect them from the cold.
The advisory is the result of clear skies and calm winds overnight, conditions that allow for rapid cooling. Frost conditions may be more pronounced in low-lying or rural areas.
