Denver, Colorado – Snow is spreading across Colorado this morning, setting up slick travel conditions by midday Friday, especially along I-70 and through the foothills where accumulation will quickly impact roads.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, snow will intensify through late morning and peak from late morning into early evening, with the heaviest totals expected in the mountains and foothills. Areas west of Denver, including Evergreen and Estes Park, could see 4 to 6 inches, while lower elevations along the I-25 corridor, including Denver, may pick up 1 to 2 inches. Lighter amounts under 1 inch are expected farther east toward Akron and Limon.

Travel impacts will be most noticeable in higher elevations, where snow-covered roads and reduced visibility could slow traffic along I-70 and mountain passes. The Palmer Divide and areas near Castle Rock may also see brief slushy conditions during the afternoon commute.

Drivers along the I-25 urban corridor should prepare for mainly wet roads, but conditions could change quickly with bursts of heavier snow. Officials urge travelers to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and check road conditions before heading out.

Temperatures will drop sharply tonight, leading to a hard freeze that could impact pipes and early vegetation. Conditions improve by Friday evening, but cold air will linger into the weekend with additional advisories possible.
