Albany, NY – Dangerous wind chills and scattered snow showers are creating hazardous conditions across Albany and surrounding counties today. A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m., with gusts reaching up to 50 mph. Wind chills are dropping to the single digits in the Hudson Valley and as low as 15 below zero in higher elevations, according to the National Weather Service.
Snow showers are expected to taper off by midday, but blustery conditions will persist into the evening. Roads may become slick due to drifting snow, particularly along major highways such as I-87 and Route 9. Residents are advised to limit outdoor activities, dress in layers, and secure loose outdoor items.
The weather will improve slightly Friday, with sunny skies but continued cold. Highs will reach around 20°F, with winds diminishing to 20-30 mph by the afternoon. Saturday brings a chance of light snow, especially in the morning, with temperatures climbing into the upper 20s. By Sunday, the region will see mostly sunny skies and a gradual warm-up to the low 30s.
Early next week, Monday and Tuesday are expected to remain dry with highs near 34°F, offering some relief from the frigid start to January.
