Melbourne, FL – Florida’s east-central counties are under freeze warnings and cold weather advisories today as temperatures remain unseasonably low. A Freeze Warning will stay in effect for Volusia and Lake counties until 9 a.m., with lows between 30 and 32 degrees. Wind chills could plunge to 20 degrees, making for bitterly cold conditions across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, the cold air will persist through Friday, with “feels-like” temperatures struggling to rise above the 40s north of I-4 and into the low 50s further south. A moderate risk of rip currents also poses a hazard for beachgoers along Florida’s Atlantic Coast, exacerbated by strong northwesterly winds up to 15 mph. If entering the water is unavoidable, officials advise swimming only near lifeguards and never alone.

Highs today are forecast to reach the low 60s in areas like Indian River and St. Lucie counties, but most regions will remain chilly. Residents should bundle up and take precautions, including protecting plants and outdoor pets vulnerable to the frost.

Small Craft Advisories will also continue into Friday. Boaters can expect winds reaching 25 knots with gusts, as well as rough seas building up to eight feet offshore. Travel along I-4 may also be affected by gusty winds, which could pose risks for high-profile vehicles.

Looking ahead, Friday will bring slightly milder conditions, with highs in the low 60s and mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will continue to rise through the weekend, with Saturday and Sunday highs peaking in the mid-60s to near 70 degrees. However, another round of gusty winds is possible by Sunday.

Stay tuned to local updates for any changes to these advisories.
