Tallahassee, FL – North Florida residents are being urged to take precautions as a hard freeze warning and widespread frost continue tonight, potentially creating dangerous driving conditions due to black ice. Temperatures are expected to drop to 25 degrees Thursday night into early Friday, making roads such as U.S. Route 27 especially hazardous for commuters.
According to the National Weather Service, black ice may develop from residual moisture refreezing overnight, particularly on bridges and shaded roadways. Drivers should reduce speeds and remain cautious, as ice patches are often invisible. Frost is expected to linger until mid-morning Friday before sunny skies and light winds bring a temporary reprieve.
Looking ahead, the cold snap will gradually ease this weekend. Friday night will remain cold with lows near 25 degrees, but daytime highs will climb to 47 degrees. By Saturday, clear skies will dominate, and temperatures will rise to the mid-50s during the day. Sunday promises even warmer conditions, with highs nearing 60 degrees and a mix of sun and clouds.
Despite the warming trend, early morning frost could still pose risks through Saturday. Residents are reminded to protect outdoor plants, bring pets indoors, and ensure exposed pipes are insulated.
By early next week, Tallahassee will enjoy a return to mild weather with highs near 62 degrees on Monday and minimal rain chances.
Be sure to prepare for the freeze tonight, stay cautious on the roads, and look forward to more comfortable conditions heading into the weekend.
