Orlando, Florida – Rising heat and an increasing risk of thunderstorms could disrupt weekend plans across Central Florida as May kicks off.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, Orlando will see a stretch of mostly sunny skies and highs near 86°F through Friday. But beginning Saturday afternoon, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the region, including along the busy I-4 corridor. Rain chances rise to 40% Saturday and 50% Sunday, with brief heavy downpours possible during peak travel times.

City impacts could include wet roads, reduced visibility, and minor delays along State Road 408, U.S. 17-92, and major attractions like Universal and Disney properties. Saturday’s high will push 89°F with high humidity, creating uncomfortable conditions even outside storm hours.

Residents should secure outdoor furniture, monitor weather alerts, and limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours. Thunderstorms could include lightning, gusty winds, and localized flooding in low-lying neighborhoods.

Spring heat continues through early next week with rain chances tapering slightly by Tuesday. Monday remains unsettled, with a 50% chance of showers and a high near 80°F.
