Orlando, Florida — A dangerous combination of strong winds, building heat and incoming severe storms will impact east-central Florida today, with the highest خطر window for damaging weather from mid-afternoon through late evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, southwest winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph with gusts reaching 30 to 40 mph by late morning, creating difficult driving conditions on exposed roads and bridges. By 3 p.m., a line of strong to severe thunderstorms will develop, with peak impacts expected between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Cities including Orlando, Daytona Beach, Sanford, Melbourne and Titusville face the greatest risk. Storm hazards include wind gusts up to 60 mph capable of downing trees and power lines, isolated tornado development and coin-sized hail. Heavy rainfall may quickly flood low-lying intersections, underpasses and drainage-prone roads, especially along I-4, I-95 and U.S. 1 where water can pool within minutes and reduce visibility.
This is part of a broader system pushing a cold front across the Florida peninsula, combining instability, heat in the upper 80s to mid-90s and strong winds to produce severe storms.
Residents should secure loose outdoor items, avoid travel during storms and move indoors immediately when lightning is observed.
The most dangerous conditions will occur between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., when severe storms may produce damaging winds, isolated tornadoes and rapid roadway flooding.
