Lauderdale Lakes, FL – A 14-year-old girl was arrested over the weekend for posting threats on Instagram targeting multiple schools across Broward County. The student allegedly made threats to carry out a mass shooting or similar violence.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO), the threats were posted on Saturday afternoon. Detectives stated that multiple posts included specific schools where the attacks would occur. Concerned individuals reported the posts to law enforcement, which led to an investigation by the Threat Management Unit (TMU) and several other agencies.

Detectives traced the posts to the teen, who resides in Lauderdale Lakes. Upon questioning, the suspect admitted to making the threats but claimed they were meant as a joke. The teen was taken into custody and processed at the Juvenile Assessment Center.

The student now faces charges for making written threats to kill or conduct a mass shooting.
