Tampa, FL — A potential tropical system, which could develop into Tropical Storm Rafael, is nearing the Gulf of Mexico, bringing increased rain and storm risks for Tampa and surrounding areas midweek. Forecasters urge Tampa Bay residents to monitor updates, as rain chances are expected to rise by Wednesday, with scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds possible.

According to the National Weather Service, Potential Tropical Cyclone Eighteen is currently located south of Jamaica and is projected to pass through the Caribbean, potentially reaching the Gulf by midweek. If it maintains its current track, residents in the Tampa Bay area should prepare for heightened rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday, with a 40% to 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms. While the core of the storm is likely to stay offshore, gusty winds of up to 21 mph may impact coastal areas.

Weekly Forecast for Tampa Bay:

Tuesday: Partly sunny with a 20% chance of afternoon showers. High near 87°F. East wind around 10-15 mph, gusting to 22 mph.

Wednesday: Rain and thunderstorms are more likely in the afternoon, with chances up to 60%. High around 86°F, with gusts up to 21 mph.

Thursday: Another round of showers, with a 50% chance of rain in the afternoon. High near 83°F, winds east-southeast 10-13 mph.

Friday: Partly sunny skies and dry conditions return with a high near 85°F, providing a break from midweek rain.

Saturday: Continued dry with mostly sunny conditions. Highs around 85°F.

As Tampa prepares for a wet midweek, residents should secure loose outdoor items and check for weather alerts. For those in low-lying areas prone to flooding, it’s advisable to stay informed and ready for potential advisories.
