Florence County, SC Shooting: 18-Year-Old Charged With Attempted Murder

Florence County, SC – An 18-year-old Florence man has been arrested and charged in connection with a June shooting that left one person injured, according to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to an area hospital on Friday, June 19, 2026, after a shooting victim arrived by private vehicle seeking treatment. Investigators determined the shooting allegedly occurred in the Brookgreen area of Florence County and launched an investigation.

Authorities identified the suspect as Tavion Andre’ Covington, 18, of Florence. Investigators allege Covington intentionally shot the victim following a verbal altercation. Officials also allege he provided false information about the location of the shooting, which delayed and impeded the investigation.

The victim’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, according to the sheriff’s office.

Covington was arrested on Saturday, July 11, 2026, and has been charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and obstruction of justice.

Officials said Covington is being held at the Florence County Detention Center without bond pending court proceedings.

The investigation remains active, and no additional details have been released.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
