Florence County, SC – Two suspects are in custody after investigators say a woman was intentionally shot and her body later set on fire inside a vehicle in Effingham, according to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded Thursday, January 22, to a report of a vehicle fully engulfed in flames on Atlantic Road near Springbranch Road. Inside the vehicle, deputies discovered a deceased victim.
Florence County Coroner Keith Von Lutcken identified the victim as Dana Marie Kinlaw, 40, of Olanta, South Carolina.
Investigators allege that Iryanna Jarissa Fleming, 19, and Daquinn Taheen Thomas, 31, intentionally shot Kinlaw, causing her death, and then set her body on fire inside the vehicle in an attempt to conceal the crime. Arrest warrants were obtained after investigators developed sufficient evidence, according to authorities.
Coroner Von Lutcken has ordered an autopsy, which will be conducted at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Officials said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are possible.
Thomas, of 739 East Spring Branch Road in Effingham, was arrested January 22 and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, according to South Carolina law.
Fleming, of 1558 Glenhaven Road in Pamplico, was also arrested January 22 and faces the same charges, authorities said.
Both suspects are currently being held at the Florence County Detention Center while awaiting bond hearings before a Circuit Court judge.
