Braidwood, IL – The National Weather Service (NWS) Chicago has issued a Flood Advisory effective until 11 AM CDT today, targeting a portion of northeast Illinois, specifically southern Cook and northern Will counties. According to the NWS, excessive rainfall is expected to cause flooding in the area, with urban and poorly drained locations particularly at risk.

The advisory comes after Doppler radar and automated rain gauges recorded between 0.5 to 1.0 inches of rainfall in the region, with some isolated areas experiencing up to 1.5 inches. The forecast warns of an additional heavy rainfall wave moving into the area shortly, which could bring up to an additional inch of rainfall, potentially causing minor flooding.

Areas likely to be affected include Chicago, Joliet, Bolingbrook, and Orland Park among others, with urban underpasses, roads, and streets facing the highest flooding threat. Residents and travelers in these areas are urged to exercise caution and avoid floodwaters.
