Salem, Mo. – Flash flooding is threatening parts of central and south-central Missouri Wednesday evening as up to 4 inches of rain soaks roads, creeks, and low-lying areas from Phelps County to Texas County.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, a Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 10:30 p.m. for southeastern Pulaski, southern Phelps, northwestern Dent, and north-central Texas counties. Radar shows thunderstorms producing rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour, with another 1 to 2 inches possible tonight.

Flash flooding is ongoing or expected in southern Fort Leonard Wood, Salem, Licking, Edgar Springs, Lenox, Anutt, Lecoma, Beulah, Lake Spring, Hazelton, Howes, Bangert, and Sligo. These areas are already seeing dangerous conditions on rural roads, creeks, and underpasses.

Several low water crossings are especially hazardous, including Boone Creek at Boone Creek Road, Dry Fork Creek at County Road 2430, Big Piney River at Highway BB, Little Piney Creek at Highway H, Crooked Creek at Highway TT, and Norman Creek at County Road 4220.

Residents are urged to stay off flooded roads, avoid low-lying routes, and never drive through water-covered crossings. Charge devices and monitor alerts for emergency updates.

Flash flood risks will continue into the night, and more warnings may follow if storms stall or intensify.
