Wilmington, IL – A fire broke out early Tuesday morning at the Lakepoint Resort, damaging a mobile home and threatening nearby structures on the west side of Wilmington Fire Protection District.
According to a statement from Deputy Chief Todd Friddle, Wilmington firefighters were dispatched at 4:06 a.m. to 24801 Lake Point Rd, where they found a park model home with an attached screened-in porch heavily involved with fire. Flames had also extended to the exposed side of a neighboring mobile home.
Wilmington personnel, with assistance from Braidwood and Coal City Fire Districts, quickly worked to extinguish the blaze and prevent further spread to adjacent structures. Due to the area lacking hydrant access, Water Tenders from the responding departments were utilized to supply water at the scene.
The mobile home was occupied at the time by an adult male and female, along with their dog. The occupants were alerted in time to escape and were not injured. No smoke detectors were reported present in the home at the time of the fire.
Officials said the fire appears to have originated in the screened-in front porch, though the exact cause remains under investigation.
Channahon and Bourbonnais Fire Districts provided station coverage during the incident, and Wilmington Police assisted on site.
