Middletown, DE – A fatal two-vehicle crash near Middletown, Delaware, resulted in one death and multiple injuries on Saturday. The incident occurred around 4:56 p.m. on Summit Bridge Road, when a Ford Explorer collided with a Ford Edge near Red Lion Road.
The Ford Edge, driven by a 66-year-old man from Media, Pennsylvania, was heading southbound and turning left into the path of the Explorer. The front of the Explorer struck the passenger’s side of the Edge, causing significant damage. The Edge’s driver, along with a 79-year-old woman from Wilmington, Delaware, and a 28-year-old woman from Media, Pennsylvania, were rushed to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A 61-year-old woman from Media was seriously injured and another passenger, an 83-year-old man from Wilmington, died at the hospital. His identity is being withheld until family members are notified.
The driver of the Explorer, a 25-year-old man from St. Louis, Missouri, and his passenger, a 29-year-old woman from North Brunswick, New Jersey, were also treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Delaware State Police closed the roadway for approximately five hours while they investigated. Authorities are urging any witnesses to contact them with information.
