Detroit, MI – A man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in northwest Detroit last month, following an investigation by the Detroit Police Department and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the Detroit Police Department, officers responded on Sunday, June 29, 2026, to the 30 block of West Seven Mile Road for a reported shooting. When officers arrived, Detroit Fire Department personnel were already on scene treating the victim, later identified as Adam Slack.
Police said Slack had driven to the Detroit Fire Department, where he reportedly began honking his vehicle’s horn until firefighters came outside. Before losing consciousness, he told first responders he had been shot. He was transported to Detroit Receiving Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
According to investigators, members of the department’s Homicide Unit developed leads on Wednesday, July 1, tracing the victim’s movements to the area of Lumpkin and E. McNichols. Detectives canvassed the area and recovered video that police say captured the incident, including audio and partial footage of a verbal altercation that allegedly ended with a single gunshot.
Police also executed multiple search warrants and interviewed witnesses who were present during the incident.
Authorities arrested Mark Malec on Thursday, July 9. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office authorized charges on Saturday, July 11, including second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and two counts of felony firearm.
Malec is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
