Wilmington, IL – Police in Wilmington are warning businesses across Will County about the circulation of fake motion picture money after a counterfeit $100 bill was discovered at a local Circle K. The bill, clearly marked “For Motion Picture Use Only,” was used during a transaction, prompting police to alert other businesses in the area.
The Wilmington Police Department stated that the realistic-looking bill could easily be mistaken for legitimate currency if not carefully inspected. Following the incident, officers urged businesses to thoroughly check any cash, especially larger denominations, for signs of forgery.
Will County officials have encouraged business owners to train employees on how to identify fake money and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement immediately. Additionally, businesses are urged to install counterfeit detection tools to prevent financial losses.
