Maywood, IL — A Maywood man was arrested following a string of Facebook Marketplace robberies along the Roosevelt corridor. Police say multiple victims were lured to meet an individual who identified himself as “Benjamin Franklin” on the platform.

According to the Maywood Police Department, the suspect, identified as Zyon J. Lay Taylor of Maywood, agreed to purchase or exchange merchandise with victims but fled once he had their cash.

On August 30, police executed a search warrant at an apartment on the 2100 block of S. 4th Avenue. Officers recovered numerous stolen items connected to the robberies.

On September 5, Taylor surrendered to authorities and was charged with three felony counts of theft from persons over $500 but under $10,000.

The Maywood Police Department urges anyone with knowledge of these incidents or additional victims to contact Commander Diaz at (708) 450-4471. Anonymous tips can be reported at (708) 450-1787.
