Alabama – Residents across northern Alabama are bracing for dangerous cold temperatures and subzero wind chills impacting daily life through Monday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory and Extreme Cold Warning in effect until noon today. Wind chills in Huntsville and nearby counties could reach as low as -5°F, making outdoor conditions hazardous. Lows will remain in the single digits and teens, with wind gusts up to 20 mph.

According to the National Weather Service, areas along I-565 and in counties such as Madison, Limestone, and Lauderdale are most affected. By Tuesday, temperatures are expected to rise slightly, with highs near 30°F and mostly clear skies. Wednesday and Thursday will bring a gradual warming trend, with highs reaching 38°F and 44°F respectively. However, overnight lows will stay cold, dipping into the teens and 20s.

Drivers should exercise caution as icy patches may remain on roadways, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Officials remind residents to keep pets indoors and check on elderly neighbors.
