A winter storm is set to impact southeast Texas, bringing snow, sleet, and dangerous wind chills starting Monday night. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning from 6 p.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Tuesday, with the heaviest snowfall expected Tuesday morning. Snowfall amounts could range from 1 to 5 inches, particularly along the I-10 corridor and coastal areas.

According to the National Weather Service, subfreezing temperatures will make roadways, including bridges and overpasses, hazardous throughout the storm. Travel on I-10 and surrounding highways is strongly discouraged, as conditions may become dangerous. Residents are urged to stay home and monitor updates on local road closures through Houston TranStar or DriveTexas.org.

On Tuesday, snow showers mixed with sleet will taper off by afternoon as temperatures remain below freezing. Wind chills are expected to dip as low as 12°F, posing risks of frostbite and hypothermia with prolonged exposure. By Tuesday night, clearing skies will lead to even colder conditions, with lows dropping to 24°F in Houston and surrounding areas.

The winter storm marks an unusual event for southeast Texas, where snowfalls of this magnitude are rare. Residents are advised to dress in layers, avoid non-essential travel, and prepare for potential power outages. Looking ahead, the region will experience a gradual warmup beginning Wednesday, with highs near 47°F by Thursday and reaching 63°F by Saturday.

Stay informed by checking the latest weather updates and safety advisories. Keep pets indoors, protect exposed pipes, and avoid using generators indoors to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. For emergencies, dial 511 for road conditions or 911 for immediate assistance.
