Elmhurst, IL – A suspect connected to an armed robbery of a rideshare driver was captured by Elmhurst police Wednesday evening, concluding an intense search. The individual was discovered hiding inside a garage on the 100 block of S. Monterey Street at approximately 7:00 p.m. and was promptly taken into custody.
According to the Elmhurst Police Department, the alert was issued around 6:15 p.m. when the suspect fled from a vehicle stopped by officers near Route 83 and Portillo’s entrance. The suspect ran west across IL Route 83 into a wooded area near Salt Creek, prompting a large-scale search involving police K9 units and drones.
The suspect, described as a black male in his 20s, approximately 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, was last seen wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt and black pants. Earlier sightings reported him wearing a black wig, black and white jacket, and red Nike sweatpants.
Authorities believe the suspect may be linked to an armed robbery at the Elmhurst Terrace apartment complex earlier in the day. The community alert has been canceled, and further information regarding charges will be announced later. Police thanked residents for their vigilance and reporting sightings via 911.
