Elmhurst Officers Seize Guns, Make Three Arrests in 12-Hour Span

Elmhurst, IL – Elmhurst Police apprehended three suspects in separate gun-related incidents within 12 hours on Friday. Officers emphasized swift action to ensure public safety.

Police stated the first arrest occurred at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. A 911 caller reported a suspect involved in a road rage incident had pointed a handgun on the expressway. Officers stopped the suspect’s vehicle near North Avenue and the I-294 ramp. A .45-caliber pistol was recovered, and the driver was handed over to Illinois State Police.

At 2:18 p.m., the Elmhurst Strategic Mission Team identified a vehicle linked to a retail theft at a Jewel parking lot. Officers detained a 33-year-old Westchester man who allegedly stole $140 in merchandise. A search of his car revealed a handgun reported stolen in Chicago. Police confirmed the man is a convicted felon prohibited from owning firearms. He faces charges for unlawful possession of a firearm, retail theft, and other felonies.

Early Saturday at 12:58 a.m., a patrol officer pulled over a 67-year-old Joliet man who was driving erratically on North Avenue. The driver, a convicted felon, was found intoxicated and in possession of a loaded handgun with a defaced serial number. He faces multiple felony charges, including DUI and unlawful use of a weapon.

All suspects were taken into custody without incident. Police reaffirmed their commitment to removing illegal firearms and protecting the community.
