Elgin Man Faces First-Degree Murder Charges in Fatal Stabbing

Elgin, IL – A 21-year-old Elgin man is facing three counts of first-degree murder following a fatal stabbing on Cedar Avenue. Anderson A. Contreras allegedly attacked the victim on October 12, 2024, intending to kill.

Police responded to the incident at 12:33 p.m. on the 1000 block of Cedar Avenue. Officers found a male victim with life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to Advocate Sherman Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. According to Elgin Chief of Police Ana Z. Lalley, Contreras was taken into custody without resistance later that day.

Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced the charges, which also include aggravated battery. Mosser stated that Contreras acted with intent to kill when he fatally stabbed the victim in the torso.

Contreras remains in custody pending his next court appearance on October 24. The Kane County Coroner’s Office is scheduled to perform an autopsy on Tuesday, October 15, to confirm the cause of death.
