Downers Grove, IL – An elderly man was robbed at gunpoint in Downers Grove, and three suspects are now being held without bail. The incident took place on September 28, 2024, when the 60-year-old victim was allegedly approached by three men while attempting to sell his vehicle.
According to authorities, the victim met the suspects through a sales app for a test drive. After the drive, the men reportedly convinced him to walk down the street, where they pulled guns on him, stealing his wallet, car keys, and other valuables. The suspects then fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle.
Officers located the suspects shortly after, leading to a brief chase and crash. DuPage County deputies and local law enforcement arrested the three men, identified as Javari Williams, Tremaine Nelson, and Tyray Hemphill. Several loaded firearms were also recovered.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin emphasized the severity of the crime and praised law enforcement’s swift response. The men are facing multiple felony charges, including armed robbery and aggravated vehicular hijacking. Their arraignment is set for October 28, 2024.
