Virginia Beach, Virginia – Morning rain will gradually move out across much of eastern Virginia today, giving way to drier skies this afternoon, while parts of southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina could continue to see lingering showers into the evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, temperatures will remain unusually comfortable for late July, with afternoon highs reaching 76 to 80 degrees across much of the region. Overnight lows will settle between 60 and 65 degrees, offering a cool finish before warmer weather returns.
Rain chances will steadily decrease from northwest to southeast through the day. Communities including Richmond, Williamsburg, Tappahannock and Farmville should see improving conditions by late morning or early afternoon. Along the coast, including Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake and the Eastern Shore, showers may linger longer, especially through the afternoon, before tapering off by evening. Portions of northeastern North Carolina, including Elizabeth City and Corolla, also face higher rain chances into the afternoon.
The cooler, drier air won’t last long. Sunshine and warmer temperatures are expected to return Sunday as a more typical late-summer pattern develops across the Mid-Atlantic.
Motorists should allow extra travel time on wet roads this morning, particularly in Hampton Roads and along the Eastern Shore. Keep an umbrella handy if you’re spending time outdoors in southeastern Virginia, but expect improving conditions later today.
