Oklahoma City, OK – Heavy rainfall and gusty winds are set to sweep across eastern Oklahoma starting late Sunday, with up to 1.5 inches of rain forecasted in some areas. The National Weather Service in Tulsa warns that this storm system could bring localized flooding, especially along major routes like I-35, as rain intensifies Sunday night and continues into Monday.
According to the National Weather Service, this weather pattern is part of an upper-level storm system moving through the region. Rainfall amounts are projected between 0.5 and 1.5 inches across most of eastern Oklahoma, with the highest totals expected near Tulsa and Fayetteville, Arkansas. Travelers are urged to exercise caution, particularly on roadways prone to standing water.
Friday and Saturday Forecast:
High pressure will dominate the area over the next two days, bringing dry and mostly sunny conditions through Saturday. Temperatures will reach the low 70s, providing a calm start to the weekend. Winds will begin shifting to the south, potentially gusting up to 20 mph on Saturday afternoon.
Sunday and Monday Outlook:
Clouds will increase Sunday, with a 20% chance of showers by late afternoon. As the cold front approaches, rain becomes likely after midnight, with a 90% chance of precipitation overnight into Monday. Rain is expected to persist throughout Monday, accompanied by gusty winds that could reach 30 mph, creating hazardous driving conditions on wet roads.
Residents should prepare for possible delays on Monday and stay tuned to updates, as heavier rainfall could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas. The weather is expected to clear gradually by Tuesday.
