Philadelphia, PA – Residents of Philadelphia and surrounding coastal areas are being advised to prepare for minor tidal flooding on Friday as high tides, fueled by a full moon, are expected to elevate water levels. A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect through midday Friday, with officials warning of potential moderate flood levels in some spots along the Delaware River and parts of South Jersey.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, NJ, the full moon’s gravitational pull has intensified tides along the coast, posing flooding risks, particularly in low-lying areas. Flooding is expected to coincide with the high tide cycle early Friday morning, affecting roadways, especially near rivers and inlets, and could disrupt the morning commute for those in flood-prone regions. Residents are urged to monitor local alerts and avoid water-covered roads.

The weather pattern shifts positively over the weekend. Friday night will bring clearing skies, with temperatures dipping to 43°F. Saturday promises a sunny day with a high of 63°F, ideal for outdoor plans as northwest winds maintain dry conditions. The clear weather will continue into Saturday night, with a low around 40°F.

The forecast remains favorable on Sunday, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 63°F, followed by partly cloudy conditions overnight. Early next week, temperatures will climb, reaching near 67°F by Monday, as the region experiences unseasonably warm, sunny weather.

Officials urge residents to remain cautious of tidal changes on Friday and to stay informed by checking for any updates to the Coastal Flood Advisory.
