Jackson, Kentucky – A cold front will continue sliding south across eastern Kentucky today, bringing one more round of scattered showers and thunderstorms before noticeably cooler and less humid air settles into the region through the end of the workweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, rain and thunderstorm chances will linger mainly along and south of the Mountain Parkway through this afternoon before the front exits into Virginia and Tennessee by late this evening. Rain chances will gradually decrease from 40% to 20% as the day progresses, with afternoon highs ranging from 78 to 84 degrees.
Communities behind the front will enjoy a refreshing change on Thursday as mostly clear skies, lower humidity and overnight lows in the lower 50s to lower 60s settle across the region. Patchy valley fog may develop Thursday morning, but otherwise dry weather is expected with highs between 77 and 84 degrees.
The quiet stretch will be short-lived. Shower and thunderstorm chances begin to increase again Friday, primarily across southern Kentucky, with additional rounds of scattered storms possible Saturday, especially south of Interstate 64. By Sunday, rain chances expand again, particularly during the evening, as highs climb back into the mid to upper 80s.
Residents should take advantage of the cooler, more comfortable conditions through Thursday before a more unsettled pattern returns for the weekend and into early next week.
