Hastings, Nebraska – Residents across central Nebraska will see several opportunities for rain through the end of the workweek before a sharp warmup sends temperatures back into the upper 90s and lower 100s this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, scattered showers and a few non-severe thunderstorms will continue from this morning into the afternoon, primarily north of Interstate 80. While rainfall today will be scattered, more widespread rounds of showers are expected overnight into Thursday morning and again Thursday night through Friday morning.
Cities including Grand Island, Hastings, Kearney, Holdrege and Lexington have some of the highest rain chances over the next several days, with precipitation probabilities climbing to 70% to 85% during the overnight and morning periods Thursday and Friday. Severe weather is not expected, but periods of moderate rainfall could affect the Thursday and Friday morning commutes.
Temperatures will remain comfortable through Friday, with highs generally ranging from the 70s to the upper 80s, although a few southern locations could touch the lower 90s Friday afternoon. Overnight lows will stay in the upper 50s to upper 60s before warming into the lower 70s by Saturday morning.
The weather pattern changes quickly this weekend. Mostly sunny skies return Saturday, sending afternoon highs soaring into the mid-90s to around 100 degrees across central Nebraska. Anyone with outdoor plans should prepare for increasing heat after several days of cooler, wetter weather.
Additional rainfall opportunities are expected to diminish by Saturday, allowing a much hotter and drier pattern to take hold across the region.
