Wheaton, IL – A DuPage County judge has denied pre-trial release for a Berkeley man charged with allegedly supplying a fatal dose of narcotics to a Darien resident. Willie Woodgett, 37, faces one count of drug-induced homicide in connection with the death of Michael Rice.

According to DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, Judge Leah Bendik granted the motion on Tuesday. Woodgett allegedly delivered the narcotics to Rice on March 30, 2023. Rice died from a drug overdose two days later. An investigation by the Darien Police Department identified Woodgett as the supplier.

Woodgett’s arraignment is set for August 26.
