Fort Worth, Texas – Damaging thunderstorms could rattle North and Central Texas tonight as a cold front pushes through the region, with the greatest threat west of I-35 and south of I-20 through early Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, scattered storms are expected to develop between 6 p.m. Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday, with some becoming severe. The storms could bring large hail, wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. Areas including Killeen, Waco, and Cisco fall under the highest risk zone.
DFW and surrounding counties — including Denton, Tarrant, and Johnson — may also see strong storms between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., while areas farther south could be impacted closer to midnight and early Friday morning.
Drivers are urged to stay off the roads during peak storm hours, especially in rural counties where wind and hail damage could affect visibility and power lines. Residents should secure outdoor objects, charge electronic devices, and have multiple methods for receiving weather alerts overnight.
Storm chances decrease by sunrise Friday, but additional watches or warnings may be issued if new cells develop behind the front.
