Greenville, S.C. – High winds and isolated thunderstorms could hit parts of South Carolina and western North Carolina Friday afternoon as a cold front pushes through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, much of the Upstate and western Piedmont are under a marginal to slight risk for severe weather Friday. Scattered storms are possible throughout the day, but the threat increases in the afternoon with damaging wind gusts, large hail, and even a brief tornado not ruled out.

Areas including Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and Hickory fall within the risk zone. Localized power outages, downed trees, and hazardous travel conditions may develop, especially during the evening commute. The National Weather Service urges residents to stay weather-aware and review emergency plans.

Temperatures will remain unusually warm, reaching into the low 80s before storms move in. By Friday night, cooler and drier air arrives, bringing relief and more stable conditions for the weekend.
