Detroit, MI – A Detroit man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting earlier this month on the city’s west side, according to the Detroit Police Department.

Police said officers from the 12th Precinct responded May 13 to the 10300 block of West McNichols Road after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in an alley.

Authorities identified the victim as Charles Clark Jr., who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to investigators, the suspect allegedly drove to the location, fatally shot the victim, and fled the area before officers arrived.

Following an investigation by the Detroit Police Department’s Homicide Unit, detectives identified Toriano Jermaine Dottery II as the suspect in the case.

Officials said Dottery was taken into custody May 18 by members of the United States Marshals Service and the Michigan State Police Emergency Response Team.

On May 20, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office formally charged Dottery with one count of first-degree premeditated murder and one count of felony firearm.

Police credited investigators with the Detroit Police Homicide Unit, along with federal and state law enforcement partners, for assisting in the arrest and case development.

Additional details regarding a possible motive or the circumstances leading up to the shooting have not yet been released.

All suspects and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
