DeMotte Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash Near I-65 Interchange in Jasper County

Jasper County, IN – A DeMotte man was killed late Tuesday in a motorcycle accident near the I-65 interchange in Jasper County. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at 11:58 p.m., involving a 2020 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a 2019 Peterbilt semi-tractor trailer. First responders pronounced the motorcyclist, 41-year-old Christopher M. Contreras, deceased at the scene.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Contreras was traveling east on State Road 10 when his motorcycle collided with the rear of the semi-tractor trailer, which was driven by Gokhan Bayram, 42, of Vineland, New Jersey. Bayram was turning left onto the ramp leading to southbound I-65 at the time of the crash.

Witnesses reported that Contreras appeared to be struggling with the operation of the motorcycle before the collision. They noted the headlights were off, but the hazard lights were activated. Additionally, witnesses observed the motorcycle being operated in a reckless manner. The investigation into this fatal crash remains ongoing.
