Crown Point, IN – A City of Crown Point employee was airlifted with serious injuries after being rescued from a lift station by the Crown Point Fire Department on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred around 10:08 a.m. at East 129th Avenue and Mississippi Parkway, where the employee had fallen into the station and was trapped at the bottom.

Upon arrival, the Crown Point Fire Technical Rescue Team promptly initiated the confined space rescue operation, successfully extricating the worker by 11:14 a.m. The employee was then airlifted by Loyola LifeStar to the University of Chicago Hyde Park, where they were reported to be in stable condition.

“We train every day to keep our community safe, and our Technical Rescue Team holds training monthly for situations just like this,” said Crown Point Fire Chief Mark Baumgardner Jr. “The City workforce is like family, so when it’s one of our own, it’s more personal. We’re keeping this employee and their family in our thoughts.”

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified of the incident, and the Crown Point Police Department also responded to the scene. No further information is available at this time.
