Bethel, DE – A Seaford woman was struck and killed in a hit-and-run crash in Bethel, Delaware, prompting a full investigation by state police.

According to Delaware State Police, troopers responded to the 8000 block of Bethel Road around 6:15 a.m. Monday, where they discovered a woman deceased along the roadside. Preliminary findings indicate the crash occurred Sunday at approximately 8:51 p.m. when an unknown vehicle was traveling eastbound on Bethel Road near O’Neal’s Road.

Police say a pedestrian entered the eastbound lane from the north side of the road and was allegedly struck by the vehicle, which then fled the scene traveling east. The victim, a 78-year-old woman from Seaford, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are withholding her identity pending family notification.

The roadway remained closed for five hours Monday morning while the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated.
