Dover, Del. – Delaware and much of the Mid-Atlantic are bracing for a prolonged heat wave, with dangerous heat index values up to 109°F expected from Monday morning through Tuesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, heat advisories are in effect for Kent, Sussex, and coastal Delaware, as well as much of southern New Jersey and Maryland’s Eastern Shore. In Pennsylvania, Carbon and Monroe counties are under alert beginning Sunday morning. Across all regions, overnight lows in the mid-70s to near 80°F will offer little relief.

In Dover, Georgetown, and Rehoboth Beach, the heat could intensify by Monday afternoon. Easton, Chestertown, and Centreville in Maryland will see similar oppressive conditions. Farther north, Stroudsburg and Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, will begin heating up Sunday with sustained high humidity through Tuesday.

Health officials urge residents to stay indoors during peak heat hours, drink water frequently, and limit outdoor activity. Vulnerable populations, including the elderly and young children, should be monitored closely. Public cooling centers may open in affected counties if conditions worsen.

The heat advisories remain in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday, and additional warnings may be issued if temperatures climb further or power outages occur.
