Lexington, NC – A Davidson County man was arrested Thursday after deputies say he fled a traffic stop on a motorcycle before abandoning the vehicle and attempting to evade law enforcement.
According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on April 23, 2026, when deputies initiated a traffic stop involving a 2006 Honda Shadow motorcycle in the Holly Grove community. Authorities said the operator allegedly fled the scene, prompting a search of the surrounding area.
Deputies later located the motorcycle abandoned near a wooded area by a church along East Holly Grove Road. After canvassing the area, officials identified and located the suspect as Devon Gage Helms, 23, of the Linwood community.
According to authorities, Helms allegedly faces multiple charges, including possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, felony fleeing to elude arrest, and resist, obstruct, and delay. Officials also confirmed Helms had an outstanding order for arrest tied to a probation violation at the time of the incident.
Helms was taken into custody and placed in the Davidson County Detention Facility. He was scheduled for a court appearance on Friday, April 24, 2026.
Per North Carolina law, judicial officials determine bond conditions in criminal cases, and law enforcement does not set bond amounts. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details at this time.
