Darke County, OH – A midday crash at a busy rural intersection sent one driver to the hospital Friday after two vehicles collided on US Route 127 near State Route 503.
According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 12:25 p.m. along with Arcanum Rescue and New Madison Fire Department after reports of an injury crash at the intersection. The crash involved two northbound vehicles traveling through the area just outside Greenville in Darke County.
Investigators said a silver Pontiac Vibe driven by Mathew Willey, 26, of Greenville, was heading north on US 127 and attempted to make a left turn onto State Route 503. As Willey turned, his vehicle was struck by a northbound black Ford Explorer driven by Matthew Whitehead, 44, also of Greenville, who was attempting to pass at the intersection.
Willey was transported to Wayne HealthCare for treatment of minor injuries, deputies said. Whitehead was not injured in the collision.
The intersection of US 127 and SR 503 is a commonly traveled route for commuters and local traffic, and the crash caused brief delays as crews worked to clear the scene. No additional hazards were reported.
The sheriff’s office has not indicated whether citations will be issued as the investigation continues.
Drivers in the area reported slowdowns shortly after the noon hour as responders managed the scene. Motorists are encouraged to use caution when navigating intersections along US 127, particularly amid increased midday traffic.
