Springfield, MO – Bitter cold grips southwest Missouri, but a warming trend is on the way. Springfield faces subzero wind chills Friday morning before temperatures gradually climb over the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, overnight lows will dip between -2°F and 5°F, with wind chills as low as -10°F in some areas. The extreme cold presents a risk of frostbite and hypothermia, especially for those without proper shelter. By Saturday, temperatures will rise to near 37°F, and Sunday will bring sunshine and highs in the 50s.
Monday and Tuesday continue the warming trend, reaching the low 60s with mostly sunny skies. Wednesday may bring a slight chance of showers but remains mild with highs near 60°F.
Residents should take precautions against extreme cold Friday morning, dress in layers, and check on vulnerable neighbors. With warming temperatures ahead, the weekend will provide a welcome break from the bitter cold.
