Philadelphia, PA – Bitter cold continues to grip Pennsylvania and surrounding areas today, with sub-zero wind chills and frostbite risks persisting into Thursday. The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for central and eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and portions of Delaware, urging residents to prepare for life-threatening conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, wind chill values as low as -4°F will impact the region, with daytime highs struggling to reach 20°F. Residents are advised to dress in multiple layers, cover exposed skin, and limit outdoor activities to avoid frostbite and hypothermia risks. Those traveling should carry blankets, ensure vehicles are winter-ready, and avoid prolonged exposure to the cold.
Temperatures are expected to improve gradually toward the weekend. Thursday’s forecast calls for sunny skies with a high of 31°F and calm winds in the afternoon. By Friday, highs near 33°F will provide slight relief, while overnight lows remain in the teens. The cold snap should ease by Saturday, with temperatures climbing to 41°F by Sunday.
Stay indoors as much as possible, check on vulnerable neighbors, and bring pets inside during extreme cold. Avoid using outdoor grills or generators indoors to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
