Corpus Christi, Texas – Scattered thunderstorms could bring heavy rain and severe weather to parts of South Texas this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, rain chances will increase Saturday afternoon, with showers and thunderstorms becoming more widespread Saturday night into Sunday.
Forecasters say parts of the region are under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms from Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning.
The primary severe weather threats include large hail and heavy rainfall, while damaging wind gusts are also possible with stronger storm cells.
Communities including Corpus Christi, Victoria, Alice, Kingsville, and surrounding areas could see thunderstorms develop as a weather system moves across South Texas.
Travelers along major corridors such as Interstate 37 and U.S. Highway 77 may encounter heavy rain, lightning, and reduced visibility if storms intensify during the evening or overnight hours.
Meteorologists note that rainfall could become locally heavy, which may create brief street flooding or ponding of water in low-lying areas.
Before storms arrive, partly to mostly cloudy skies and breezy southeast winds are expected across the region Friday, with gusts near 25 mph in some locations.
Temperatures will remain well above normal, with highs reaching the 80s near the coast and lower 90s inland ahead of the weekend system.
Rain chances may continue into Monday and Tuesday, though coverage is expected to gradually decrease as the system moves east.
Residents are encouraged to monitor forecast updates and review severe weather safety plans as conditions evolve heading into the weekend.
Students, weekend travelers, and evening commuters across South Texas may encounter heavy rain and thunderstorms if storms develop late Saturday.
