Cook County, IL – A decades-old missing persons case has returned to the spotlight as the Cook County Sheriff’s Office intensifies efforts to locate Kathleen Beitzel, who vanished in 1979 from Streamwood, Illinois.

According to a post shared Monday by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Beitzel was last seen on July 14, 1979, when she was 33 years old. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Special Victims Unit are now calling on the public for any leads that might help solve the case, emphasizing that even small pieces of information could be significant.

Beitzel is described as having blue eyes, brown hair, and standing 5 feet 6 inches tall. She weighed approximately 120 pounds at the time of her disappearance. The agency also included an age-progressed profile indicating she would be 75 years old today.

“This case is one of many that remain open, and we are committed to finding answers for the families who have lived for years without closure,” the Sheriff’s Office stated in its post. A dedicated team within the department continues to investigate long-term missing persons cases through the Missing Persons Project.

Anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact the Cook County Sheriff’s Office at 773-674-9490 or via email at ccso.missingpersons@ccsheriff.org.

Beitzel’s disappearance remains one of the oldest unresolved missing persons cases in the county.
